Stendra (Avanafil) is a prescription drug that is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline under the brand name Stendra. It belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5Is). It works by increasing blood flow to the penis and can help a man have an erection when he is sexually stimulated.

How To Use Stendra?

Before you begin taking avanafil, and again each time you get a refill, make sure to read the Patient Information Leaflet, which should be available from your pharmacist. Please consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

It is recommended that you take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, which is usually as needed. This medication is available in a variety of dosage forms. Depending on your dose, you should take avanafil 15 minutes or 30 minutes before you plan to engage in sexual activity. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully regarding how long you should wait before engaging in sexual activity after taking this medication. Take no more than once a day in total.

The dosage is determined by your medical condition, response to treatment, and any additional medications you may be taking at the time. Make sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all of the products you are currently using (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).

Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve after a few days.

How Long Does Stendra Last?

How long does Stendra last

Erectile dysfunction drug Stendra has been on the market since 2012. The average length of time Stendra starts to work after being taken is 15 to 30 minutes. It is not recommended to take Stendra with other ED drugs such as Cialis or Viagra

Stendra may provide an erection for as long as six hours, and men who’ve taken the drug should wait at least 30 minutes to an hour before having sex.

Is Stendra Available Over The Counter?

Stendra is available through prescription only. Your doctor can prescribe it but will have to discuss with you the side effects. If, for whatever reason, your doctor doesn’t want you to use Stendra, you can opt for another ED medication such as Viagra or Cialis. All ED medications carry risk of side effects, so ask your doctor if Stendra is the right choice for you.

Who Should Not Take Stendra?

Do not use Stendra if you are allergic to any ingredient in the drug or if you have severe kidney or liver disease. Do not use Stendra if you have a heart problem or high blood pressure or are taking certain medicines. Tell your doctor if you have had problems with your vision, or have cataracts, glaucoma, or problems with your bladder.

Patients should be evaluated to determine if they are safe candidates for Stendra, as Stendra is not for everyone. You need to be healthy enough to use it properly. Also, the medication may not work for you. You might have a different type of sexual dysfunction than what Stendra is designed to treat.

Stendra Side Effects

Stendra side effects

Headache, flushing, or dizziness may occur after use of the drug. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist about it.

Sexual activity may place additional strain on your heart, particularly if you have heart problems. If you have a heart condition and experience any of the following serious side effects while having sex, stop immediately and seek medical attention: severe dizziness, fainting, chest/jaw/left arm pain, nausea.

Rarely, one or both eyes may experience a sudden decrease in vision, including permanent blindness (NAION). If this serious problem occurs, discontinue avanafil immediately and seek medical attention.

Some have reported a sudden decrease or loss of hearing after using Stendra, sometimes accompanied by ringing in the ears and dizziness. If you experience any of these side effects, stop taking Stendra and seek medical attention right away.

If you have a painful erection that lasts 4 hours or more, stop using this drug immediately and seek medical attention, or permanent problems may occur.

It is extremely rare for this medication to cause a severe allergic reaction in patients. However, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible if you experience any of the following symptoms of a severe allergic reaction: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.

This is not an exhaustive list of potential side effects. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any other side effects that are not listed above.

Stendra Dosage

The starting dose is 100 mg, which is considered to be adequate. Stendra should be taken orally as needed as early as 15 minutes before sexual activity, if at all possible.

It is possible that the dose will be increased to 200 mg taken as early as 15 minutes before sexual activity, or that it will be decreased to 50 mg taken approximately 30 minutes before sexual activity, depending on individual efficacy and tolerability. It is preferable to use the smallest effective dose possible.

The maximum number of times per day that is recommended is once per day. It is necessary to have sexual stimulation in order to respond to treatment.

Stendra Drug Interactions

Stendra drug interactions

Drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. While this document does not contain all possible drug interactions, you should consult with your doctor before using Stendra.

Avanafil (Stendra) can cause a big drop in your blood pressure when it’s used with nitrates, which can make you dizzy, faint, or even have a heart attack or stroke. Any of the following: Nitrates, like nitroglycerin, are used to treat chest pain or angina. Poppers, which are recreational drugs that contain amyl or butyl nitrite, are also used to treat chest pain.

Refrain from taking Stendra if you are also taking alpha blockers (like doxazosin or tamsulosin) to treat an enlarged prostate or high blood pressure because the combination of drugs might make your blood pressure dangerously low.

Your doctor may start you on Stendra at a lower dose and see how your body reacts before increasing dosage.

You may not be able to get Stendra out of your system as quickly as is normal and affect the drug’s efficacy if you take medicines such as antifungals (like itraconazole and ketoconazole), cobicistat, macrolide antibiotics (like clarithromycin and erythromycin), HIV protease inhibitors, and etc.

Stendra Vs Viagra

Both Avanafil (Stendra) and Viagra are PDE5 inhibitors used to treat erectile dysfunction.

Stendra should be taken as early as 15 minutes before sexual activity in a 100 mg or 200 mg dose. It can also be taken at a dose of 50 mg about 30 minutes before sexual activity.

Viagra, on the other hand, should be taken about an hour before sexual activity. Only one dose of Stendra or Viagra should be taken in a single day.

To be effective, regardless of the drug or dose, the medication must be accompanied by sexual stimulation. Either medication can be taken with or without food.

A review of clinical studies concluded that Stendra was as effective as Viagra and other PDE5 inhibitors. The study also found that Stendra has fewer side effects and drug interactions, and has a lower effect on lowering blood pressure.

Another review of studies concluded that Stendra is safe and effective, but that its market position is uncertain. This is due to the fact that all PDE5 inhibitors are similar, and, with the exception of Stendra, all of them are available in generic form, providing the patient with a significant cost savings.

Only your doctor can determine the most effective medication for you based on your medical condition(s), history, and other medications you are taking.

Erectile dysfunction is a very common condition. It affects men of all ages, races, and backgrounds. While erectile dysfunction is not a disease, it is a common symptom of several medical conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Fortunately, drugs like Stendra exist to treat this condition. These medications, called PDE5 inhibitors, increase blood flow to the penis, allowing it to become erect. Stendra has been shown to be as effective as Viagra and other PDE5 inhibitors, and it has fewer side effects and drug interactions.
